Book description:

Dr. Joseph Cornelius Rossaint

Karl Heinz Jahnke/Alexander Rossaint

Dr. Joseph C. Rossaint is among the figures who helped shape the 20th century.

Three anniversaries provided the immediate occasion for this book:

- 5 August 1997 marks the 95th anniversary of Joseph Rossaint's birth.

- Sixty years ago, on 28 April 1937, Dr. Joseph Rossaint was sentenced by the Nazi

People's Court to eleven years of penal imprisonment as the principal defendant in the “Berlin Catholic trial”.

- In March 1947, Dr. Rossaint was among the co-founders of the Association of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime and, as its president for more than three decades, decisively shaped the work of this foremost organisation of German anti-fascists.

In the first part of the book, Karl Heinz Jahnke outlines the life of Dr. Joseph Rossaint.

The second part contains 29 texts by Dr. Rossaint written between 1930 and 1990.

The main topics are:

Catholic youth work, engagement with National Socialism, anti-fascist resistance, participation in the democratic new beginning, including in the League of Christian Socialists, the activities and history of the Associations of Persecutees of the Nazi

Regime/League of Anti-Fascists, and Germany's role in the 19th and 20th centuries.
